The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has released Brig. Gen. Johnson Namanya from detention following a meeting that cleared him of all allegations.
In a statement issued by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Acting Defence Public Information Officer, Col. Chris Magezi, said the decision followed “an amicable and friendly meeting” between the two officers.
“Brig Gen Namanya was cleared of all allegations leveled against him and will resume his military duties accordingly,” Magezi said.
The UPDF did not disclose details of the allegations or the circumstances surrounding Namanya’s detention.
However, military sources had earlier indicated he was being held at the Kasenyi military installation following directives from Gen. Muhoozi.
Namanya had only recently returned to active duty.
In February 2026, he and another senior officer were recalled from secondment at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, where he served as Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management.
The recall followed a broader review of immigration operations ordered by the CDF.
The latest development signals a swift resolution within the military leadership, with Namanya expected to immediately resume his duties.
It also reflects ongoing internal accountability processes within the UPDF, which have in recent months seen a series of personnel adjustments under Gen. Muhoozi.
